CARE FOR THE CAREGIVER

Pharmacy help
for caregivers.

Coordinating a pharmacy visit for someone else can involve a few extra details. Start with a call to Victory so you know what to prepare, what to confirm and how to include the person you support.

THREE PRACTICAL STEPS

Make the next visit easier

  1. 01

    Explain how you are helping

Say whether you are arranging a pickup, asking a medication question or helping coordinate care. Each conversation may need different information.

  2. 02

    Confirm what is needed

Ask what patient information, identification or permission is needed for your specific visit. Do not assume the same arrangements apply to every prescription.

  3. 03

    Check before travelling

Confirm readiness, pickup timing and any amount due. If a question remains, ask who should speak with the pharmacy next.

Picking up for someone else

HHS explains that pharmacists may use professional judgment when a person collects a prescription for a patient. Call Victory about the particular pickup and its requirements.

  • Can I collect this prescription for the patient?
  • What information or identification should I bring?
  • Does the patient need to speak with the pharmacy first?
  • How can the patient explain what information they want discussed with me?

Keep one current medication list

FDA recommends keeping an up-to-date list that includes prescriptions, nonprescription products, vitamins and supplements. Include allergies and update it when your care team changes instructions.

  • Agree with the person you support on who keeps the list current.
  • Bring a current copy when asking medication questions.
  • Write down unclear instructions to discuss with the pharmacist.
  • Ask the care team how to share the list appropriately.
